Volunteer Management Training Series-Increase the effectiveness of Volunteer Programs in your community.

Would you like to offer more training on volunteer management? Does your busy schedule keep you from developing training materials? The Volunteer Management Training Series is a high quality, comprehensive course in volunteer management designed to be delivered to community organizations and volunteer managers by local Volunteer Centers. The curriculum is based on research and best practices in volunteer management. This product will be available exclusively to Volunteer Centers that are members of the Volunteer Center National Network.

The Volunteer Management Training Series consists of six courses, each a training that can be conducted in 4 hours.
Each course includes:
• Planning checklists
• Lesson plan and trainer’s notes
• Handout and overhead templates
• Alternative activities and resources
• Marketing materials

Course 1—Understanding Volunteers
• Overview of volunteer trends in the US
• Characteristics of effective volunteer programs
• Volunteer involvement and motivation models

Course 2—Planning a Volunteer Program
• Building a mission and vision
• Conducting basic needs assessments
• Creating volunteer position descriptions, policies and budgets
• Building staff support

Course 3—Recruiting and Placing Volunteers
• Developing volunteer recruitment strategies and messages
• Accessing underutilized volunteers
• Creating a screening process to minimize risk
• Interviewing volunteers for optimal placement

Course 4—Orienting and Training Volunteers
• Identifying training needs
• Building a training session
• Effective training delivery

Course 5—Supervision and Recognition of Volunteers
• Defining and communicating expectations
• Supervising and recognizing people with different motivations
• Developing a recognition plan

Course 6—Evaluating Volunteer Programs
• Deciding what you need to evaluate
• Assessing volunteer satisfaction, management process and community impact
